This thread doesn't really has to do anything with the upcoming update but, how big will the map be eventually with the multiple map sections?
I know that the devs said something about being able to travel from coast to coast.

Will we be able to go from New york to L.A.?

from what i understand the plan is to add new map secments from time to time (each one the size of the current map) so eventually it'll be flipping huge
but for the next update it'll be "only" 4 times as big

dunno about going from NY to LA
distance wise possibly eventually anyways but im not sure i would count on the maps being made to match each city 100% if at all

It would take like 10 years to recreate the complete United States of Amerika.
Easy solution for this would be to just ad a lot of farmland maps and only take like the most important cities. ( And off cours an Amish town. )

I'm sure there'll be a limit though, the game's based in a quarantined county so there will be a finite number of maps. I imagine the capability of the game would surpass that, so modders could probably extend it as much as they wanted.

For the purposes of realism for the vanilla version though, I imagine it'll be limited in size but big enough to keep us busy for a long time (I hope! )

While they may have doubled map size (quadrupled, King?), I don't think they intent to support segmented maps yet..

If the current map= 1, then it is 2 maps x 2 maps.

I believe the "quarantine zone" is eventually supposed to encompass a large city, some big country areas, and two smaller towns. With a military blockade stopping you from getting out. I remember something like that.

But after a month the powerplant fails and the zombies will destroy the quarantine, giving the player the posibility to cross the quarantine.

When the power fails, it only fails inside the quarantine zone.

And I thought that the game area just consisted of one really big city, and some countryside rural areas ( and forests ) that are around the city. I think the military didn't set up a blockade directly outside the city, I think they would have put some distance between them and the city.

And small towns and houses in the countryside is a possibility which I would like to see.

As a frame of reference.

A city would be a large metropolitan area consisting of around ~500,000 people. Around that city is farmland and smaller cities and townships. The Quarantine would probably point out the main city, the surrounding townships and places, then the ones that aren't infected THEN build a quarantine border.

So a large city (+500,000), a few smaller ones (~100k people) and a few townships (~20K-200 people) would be in the zone.

So maybe around 500k - 2 million zombies depending on how big they want to make the area.

Let's take it to real-world terms here.

My hometown of London Ontario has 474,786 people in the metropolitan area and 366,151 people in the city itself.

However!

The Greater Toronto Area (GTA) which contains a few cities right around it has about 6,054,191 people living in it. The density of the GTA is around 850 people in one square kilometer or 2,201 people in a square mile for Americans to think about.

Hopefully the game won't be THAT big. Around 2 million zombies would be nice.

They probably won't actually have a limit to the zombies.
It would suck if you finally managed to kill every single zombie, would be boring.

I think what would happen is that zombies will be spawning constantly. Maybe you will clear a bit of a forest, and that will be clear for a while, but slowly more and more zombies will start spawning on the edges of the map and slowly spread across the map and will eventually probably find you unless you're quiet and have covered the windows with sheets.

Also one cool feature of the game which I hadn't realised we will all probably be able to do is build a little barricade around our garden where we are growing crops. I wonder how many kinds of crops you can grow
